Anything on Earth could be your friend?
Ideas flurrish when sterotypes are lost
This is a picture of Nathan Fons blasting in
my parents backyard in the year of 2003
Steve Buddendeck took this photo and it
happens to be one of my all time favorites.
Its got a powerful energy to it,
look how high bikes can fly! It encompasses what
riding is all about- flying high with
your friends over sacred ground..
Nathan has accomplished more than most on his BMX
He is fearless and a fire of inspiration to push the limits!
He is also humble and modest, which I admire most..

Check out more photos

malcom
This is Malcolm,
Malcolm is a gentle soul
with a tongue that will hit any cheek within distance
he usually hangs out with Dundee, his brother from another mother
they live at my parents house in Michigan.
Dundee is more of a wuss and usually hangs out inside
Malcolm is the trail dog
this last season we rebuilt 248 together
he usually sits on top of the landing I'm closest to
and stares at me. probably wondering what im doing or he just has
mad respect for digging.
he also chases me down the yard during a run and
watching him out of the corner of my eye while floating peak to
peak is more enjoyable than any trick i have ever done.
its the simple things...

no reason for posting this other
than to give Springer Spaniels a shout!

Hopefully i get a springer ranch going when i
am old and far from the city...

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability,
but comes through continuous struggle. And so we
must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.
A man can't ride you unless your back is bent.

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fly Free

fly free

Heres a scan of some words/photos of mine that got published in
ZwanZig- a German BMX magazine
248/freeflyer vibe roaming Europe...

here is what the words in german mean...

I started jumping my BMX by building roadside fly outs with my brothers. The desire to fly on two wheels was our main motivator as inexperienced youngsters. This desire grew larger as time moved on and we wanted to fly higher. The only way to fly higher was to build bigger. With this in mind the emphasis on building increased as much as our desire to fly. Putting all else aside besides imagination, we began to create our ideas. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. As of this very moment I have spent more than half of my 25 years on earth building jumps in Michigan with my brothers and friends.
By staying and working with what felt natural, I have come to realize many important things from building. One of the most important being that nothing in life is consistent. The only thing that remains consistent is change, especially when it comes to building trails. From riders to builders to spots to weather; the only way to keep going is
to adapt to what is put in front of you day after day and year after year.
As far as the idea of trails, there are no rules, regulations or guidelines to follow. There is no certain type of bike you must ride, jump you must build or shovel you must use. The choices are yours. I suggest you make up your own rules, your own way to ride and to steer high and far from following anything you have ever seen. The only thing to follow is your mind. Set yourself free from the illusion put in front of you and build from within. All the energy you will ever need lies within you!

Gain momentum…

Call of the wild........

Creativity starts at home...

TVO,

Here's the Quinzhee (type of Igloo) my family and I made while I was
back in the U.P. for Christmas time. It took a few motivated
individuals, 2 snow blowers and some snow shovels to produce this
monster. It's about 20 feet in diameter, and about 7 feet tall. It took
about 15 hrs with multiple people working. We used dueling snow
blowers to stack the snow. We carved out from
the inside and transported snow outside and back on top of the
structure with sleds. Arches were constructed for doorways and the
window/bar in the middle for support. It is almost completely soundproof.
We've gotten pretty loose in it!

Even in the deepest Michigan snow there is always digging to be done!

Cheers ta da U.P. eh?

-Mike

This is as close as I can come to time travel.
Looking at the past brings forth the realization
that I have led many different lives, at many
different points along the way..

Its been a good time.
Anyone want to sit down for a cup of coffee?
